Dear You

When you ask me how my day was, I love it when you actually LISTEN. And I really love it when you come up behind me and put your arms around me when I'm sad, or stressed, or having a bad day.

I want you to buy me little gifts, just because. A single rose. A surprise Strawberry Cheese from Starbucks.

I want you to have goals and dreams and ambition. You don’t have to have tons of money or drive a fancy car or shower me with extravagant gifts…but I want you to be passionate and driven to achieve something. I want to know that you’re willing to challenge yourself and reach for something greater. Even if you don’t catch it. (I’ll be there even if you don’t catch it).

I want you to have your own space to grow and become and dream. I want you to respect my space to grow and become and dream. I don’t need to be with you every single second of every single day. I want there to be healthy spaces in our togetherness.

I want you to be my best friend, my safe haven, my calm in the storm, a shoulder to cry on, the killer of the spiders, the assembler of bookshelves when the only instructions that came with them are in Greek.

(Important): I want you to love God more than you love me. I want you to seek Him more than you seek me. I want you to pray with me, and worship next to me in church, and remind me of how much God loves me when I’ve forgotten.
